I found out before Jake did because they called my phone. They called around 9:00 in the morning, I called/texted Jake shortly after hearing the results. Because of the nature of Jake's job, he didn't want to leave until lunch time. But I didn't want to tell him over the phone. So he had to wait. According to him, it was the longest few hours.
I had the great idea to bake a funfetti cake and dye it the color of the gender. I was in the middle of making the cake when Jake called for a reason I forget. I told him was I was doing and he made a wonderful point. Here is what he said. "Make sure you add enough dye because I can't tell the difference between light pink and light blue. So I may not know what the gender is."
I looked down at my lightly pinked cake and realized my "color deficient" husband wouldn't be able to tell if we were having a boy or a girl by looking at the cake. Shoot. This first cake just wouldn't do. I made a rush to the store to get another cake mix. I made sure it was pink. Really, really pink. But not red. Pink.
Week 13
How big is Baby Taylor: The size of a peach. (That's about 3 inches, and .81 oz.)
Gender: GIRL!!
Developments: She's forming vocal cords and teeth and she already has fingerprints!
Mom's Feelings: Less nauseous, but still experiencing morning sickness. Food is starting to look more appealing, but it depends on the moment.
Bump: We forgot to take the 13 week picture, but there still isn't a bump there. She might decide to show up sometime.
Week 14
Developments: Her kidneys are making urine and her liver and spleen are functioning too! She's starting to grow lanugo to help keep her warm.
Mom's Feelings: Getting better little by little!
Bump: Again, getting there. I can see it. And feel it. But that doesn't mean much for everyone else.
Week 15
Developments: She's squirming a ton! Though I can't feel it. Not yet at least. She can even move her joints and limbs now.
Mom's Feelings: Not bad. Feeling pretty good actually. The pregnancy did hinder New York a little. Fatigue has been a serious problem. We'd be having a great day, trekking along. When I would just lose it. Exhaustion would take over. But at least I'm not feeling sick anymore.
Bump: Visible! At least sometimes.
Week 16
Developments: She can hear now that her malleus, incus, and stapes are formed. That means she'll be able to recognize my voice, and soon enough, Jake's voice too! She's currently working on growing hair (she'll be lucky if she isn't bald like Jake and I were in the first months of life.) She is also forming taste buds.
Her heart beat was just over 150 bpm. Very healthy, according to the doctor.
Mom's Feelings: Feeling great! I've even been able to start more intensive exercise again. That has been such a relief. :) I keep reading about a "quickening" that I'll start to feel. Sometime has been going on down there, but I don't know exactly what it is. I'd like to think it is the baby, rather than muscle spasms. I had one night where Jake pushed on my stomach (the reason, I can't remember. I think it was an accident) and I felt something! A flutter-y feeling. That's been happening more and more. Again, I don't know exactly what it is, but I'm going to assume it's the baby. It's more fun that way.
Weird dreams. Really weird and vivid dreams. It's been...odd. They seem so real, yet once I wake up, it doesn't make sense. I'll tell Jake my dreams, and he just laughs. They don't make sense.
Bump: We went to the doctor and I quote, "You really don't look pregnant at all." That was the doctor as he was measuring the uterus. Again, if I wear tight clothing, like the dress above, you can see it. But in most of my clothes, nothing. According to the doctor, because of my height, I won't start to really show until 24ish weeks. We will see if he is right! And, if I wear baggy clothing, he thinks the bump would be hidden until as late as 28 weeks. Again, we can see! Only time will tell.
Week 17
Developments: Her cartilage is starting to harden into bone. She's also starting to put muscle on her bones, and some fat. Her senses are starting to come in.
Bump: You can see her a little bit! Every day getting a little bigger. :) I think it really depends on the clothes. The doctor guessed 24 weeks, but I don't know if I believe it. Only time can tell!
