It was love at first sight. Well, actually, not at all. Jake and I were set up on a blind date in October 2012. We went to a BYU basketball game. For anyone who knows Jake, you'll realize why this probably didn't go super well. Jake loves sports more than just about anything, especially basketball. During the game, I was doing most of the talking. Lucky for me, I'm pretty much a chatterbox anyway, so I didn't particularly notice. I thought he was nice, and even better, super tall. (I'm a girl just over 5'10. Growing up, pretty much everyone was shorter than me.)
After the basketball game, Jake and I didn't really communicate much. We had a few texts back and forth. Other than that, it was complete silence. Until a random day in December. Jake asked me - a complete shock to me - to go to the Christmas devotional in Salt Lake with him. Oh man, we got along so well. The sparks were flyin'. But after the date, radio silence took over again. New Years' went as quickly as it came. Soon enough, students made their way back to Provo for Winter semester.
On a random day in January, under much duress from roommates, I went to a BYU basketball despite all the studying and homework I should have been doing. Much to my demise, Jake happened to sit in the row behind me. Talk about awkward. I really didn't want to talk to him. He was that random guy that I had gone on two dates with, but never heard from again. But the friendly person in me convinced me to turn around and ask how his Christmas was, expecting nothing to come of it.
Alas, the next night, my phone lit up with the name Jake Taylor is big letters. This third date was to Phantom of the Opera. Which, to all who me, was a big plus. (I love musicals and plays and the like. The fact that he likes them too just makes him that much sweeter.) Anyway, after Phantom, the ball really started rolling.
After that day in January, we saw each other every night. One thing led to another, and we fell in love. We became engaged on July 4, 2013. And 5 1/2 short (but really rather long) months later we became husband and wife on November 22.
Now here we are. 8 months later. And it has been a wonderful 8 month. I couldn't imagine life without my crazy Texan. Though we may have had a rocky start, I'm so glad it worked out in the end. Jake brings out the better side of me and I hope I do the same for him. I just hope I can be the women he really deserves. Here's to a happy life together. :)
